Ok just did a huge amount of work on my truck. 2007 f150 4.6.....new: intake manifold, valve cover gastets, spark plugs, coil packs, EGR valve, EGR tube, throttle body spacer, coolant, oil change, trans fluid......spent the last two weeks in my “spare time” doing all this. Finally went to start her back up and within a few seconds started smoking. Smoke looks like it’s coming from underneath the engine...like exhaust or something but have ran it a few times and it doesn’t seem to stop. I’m too scared to let her run too long. If anyone knows why or what I might have done to cause this please help!
Its easy to get oil on exhaust manifold . but it should burn off shortly .But if its coming out exhaust thats another story ,which means intake manifold gaskets . You can build homemade you tube smoke machine ,cover mouth of throttle body with rubber glove . Then pump smoke in power brake hose .
Lets hope you have leaking valve covers . -oil on to exhaust.
Look in your spark wells to make sure liquid is not getting in there.
I took great care to make sure the intake manifold gadgets got a good seal because that’s what was wrong in the first place. I know I got some coolant into the cylinders when replacing the old spark plugs because that’s the problem I was having before. And I agree about the oil because usually it burns off pretty quick....also heard something like a bad PCV valve could cause this...is that true?
The only other thing I could think it would be is a blown head gasket but that doesn’t make sense at all because she was running great before I started all this. Any ideas?
Ok so I’ve let it run quite a bit now and it seems that there is no more smoke yay!!!!! However I’m noticing a hiss still....it’s very faint but if you go under the truck while it’s running it’s louder. Exhausted manifolds look clean though. Maybe it’s still burning some off? Or I heard possibly a vacuum line? Any ideas? Really hoping there’s not a leak.
after I did my intake manifold gaskets it smoked like a freight train for at least 30 minutes.
exhaust system must have been loaded with coolant?
I did a 97 once too and the same thing, takes a while for the coolant to burn out of everything
