How difficult is it to replace the egr valve and clean out the throttle cover?
I have to fix my truck to pass emissions & would like to know if a non mechanic should even attempt. 1888 modle f150
Don't know what throttle cover you are talking about.
EGR replacement should not be too difficult. If the exhaust tube to the EGR breaks you have to replace that too. Make sure the EGR and the postition sensor are compatible, buy them at the same place. Clean out the passages that the exhaust flows through while you have the EGR out. Start the engine for a second to blow the chunks out of the exhaust tube.

Thanks, I will probably tackle it this weekend. The throttle body is what they said needed to be cleaned I assume that is the passages that the exhaust flows through. I will let you know how it goes.
Um, no the throttle body doesn't deal much with Exhaust if I'm not mistaken. You'll know if something is wrong with your EGR, because u'll hear it. My EGR tube broke last week and the engine sounds MUCH different because of the "puffs" of straight exhaust it puts out.
When cleaning the intake, don't fill it up with carburetor cleaner and then start the engine. You can seriously hurt your engine. They may be talking about taking off the throttle body to get to the inside of the egr port for cleaning. Post what you find out and let us know.
