Eseries Help!!
Geezus, changing my oil. Open the Motorcraft 2016 filter and there's a plastic part I've never seen before included. Looks like a small 4-blade fan. Then, I notice that the filter doesn't actually snap into the cap. That's when I see "Do not reuse cap" stamped in the plastic and realize it's not an OEM cap. Off to the dealer and get an EC767 Oil Filter Cover for this 2008 E450 with 6.0. Looks exactly right, but when I get back, it's too short to accommodate the 2016 filter.
Then, I recalled having this issue before. I'd even questioned the 2016 filter the first oil change I did for this truck, thinking it was different than the trucks. I knew the cover was. But, it went in that time, I must not have noticed it didn't snap.
So, what do I have wrong? I've searched Fordparts.com and it shows the 2016 filter with the 767 cover. I'm pretty sure I'm pushing the filter up all the way - I feel it pushing, I assume, the valve at the very end, about a quarter/half inch spring action.

Well, I figured it out. The standpipe wasn't collapsing. That's what that little plastic fan does. It fits into the end of the standpipe. Strange that I've never seen that before. Never had to do that on my Fseries.

Still on my mind. Why did that filter have that little plastic fan when I've never seen one in any of the other filters I've bought from Walmart? And it's there just when I needed it? Has anyone else ever seen one of those? I've never read a thread here talking about installing them. And it was definitely in the filter box, and not in the filter cover package. I would understand more if it had come with the cap.
Why would it not already be in the standpipe? I've never had the issue with the standpipe not collapsing before on Fseries, is that fan already installed or does it have something to do with the Eseries being upside down? Since it came with the filter, does that mean I'm supposed to replace it too next oil change? Why?

That's it exactly! Although the plastic gizmo has four blades, not three. And my bus was doing exactly what the vid shows. But, the filter came from Walmart in a Motorcraft box and included that plastic keyway. So, now I know it's nothing about my truck, it's that Walmart is selling counterfeit Motorcraft filters.

I assume its the PF filter, unless there's another 2016 part number. I think it's counterfeit after seeing Mark's video. I assume, once I buy a real Motorcraft filter next oil change, that I'll have to take that doodad back out. That's crazy that they'd sell a product like that. As ugly as selling the tall cap that doesn't work with OEM filters - just creating the possibility of someone screwing up.

Oh yea, I’m still here, lurking in the background. Still proud to be a member. I don’t post as much because we got so much knowledge here plus I only “check in” a couple of times a day so I seldom get right back to folks who ask follow on questions. I see things I wanna correct or add to sometimes but it usually gets sorted out pretty quick without my input. I enjoy reading about your adventures and some of the other guys as well. I posted here because it was starting to look like you were talking to yourself, lol. Good to know WM is selling those filters but I’ve been buying white box Racor’s from DieselFiltersOnline for a long time.
