Yep, I think y'all have nailed it. Someone went into Walmart and switched the Motorcraft filter for a Fram filter, taking the MC filter in the Fram box to pay less. I got the Fram filter with the adapter included. So, I'll order filters online and remove that adapter when I put genuine MC filters in next oil change.
You guys peaked my curiosity. I was in Walmart today grabbing oil & filter for my Expedition and I decided to take a look at the 6.0 filters. On the outside the Fram filter looks the same as the Motorcraft filter. But it does have the word FRAM printed on the top of it. Motorcraft only has the patent numbers. So if you decide to pick one up at Walmart, be sure to look for the patent number.
