MAP Sensor

Hi, I have a 94 F250 7.5 Turbo diesel. Left it sitting for a month. Went to charge the batteries(needs new batteries yes) before getting it ready to do some work next week and saw that some critter had chewed up wires to what appears to be the MAP sensor, I think that is what it is. A ribbed conduit cable containing 6 smaller wires, now frayed and chewed and one disconnected, that runs from the back left (looking from front of truck to back) wall up around the battery and disappears to the other side as far as I can tell. Obvioiusly I don;t know much about the wiring of the truck. Is this a job for a regular mechanic or???

You can put the wires back together? Color for color?

Mechanics do mess with wiring also. Some don't mess with computers too much, but they know how to splice wires back together in some form or fashion.

wires

yes, still connected though all frazzled. I will need to get the right type of wiring, I hope that will not be too difficult. Going to try to do it myself.

Should be able to get it from the autoparts store. While it would be nice, I doubt you will be able to duplicate the different colors. If it's just going to be a short section, just use one or two colors, or whatever you can get that makes it easier for you. If you carefully crimp them back together with butt splices, and it's out of the weather/mud/grime, then butt splices should work fine.

Part Pic from Chilton Book

Got another questions. Somewhat near the MAP that those wires were connected to, to the left, in the far left corner on the wall, is a cannister like device with a white plastic hollow tube, very small diameter. Can;t see what it connects to as it runs in to a group of taped and protected wires. The tubing is very brittle and has disintegrated in one place, which is how I know it is a hollow tube not a wire. Any clue what it is?

See attachment for part photo from Chilton F250 book. The part I draw a box around, not the MAP.

I believe the piece you are asking about is your recirculation door actuator for the HVAC system. This should move when you put the lever from A/C to A/C max. In normal heat and A/C modes, the fan for the heater/A/C draws air from the grille at the bottom of the windshield where the wipers are located. If you put the lever in "max", it puts vacuum on that white line and it moves the actuator which moves a door and lets the fan suck air instead from inside the truck.

All the trucks I have ever owned had this line that was rotted. On each one I was able to unwrap the harness and under there the line is in better shape. You can then cut the line, and slip a regular piece of small black rubber hose over the line, and then slip it back onto the actuator to repair it.
