How do I do it? I found the updates online but no explanation on how to get the file into the actual adapter, and I am no computer whiz. I figure the adapter will have to be plugged into the vehicle so it will have power but I have no clue how to get the downloaded update into the adapter. I know the "+" model has WIFI capabilities but I have only used it with Bluetooth.

To install an update via the OBDLink app, navigate to 'Settings' > 'Firmware Updates', then click 'Check For Updates' To install an update via a Windows PC, download and extract the archive, then run StnFirmwareUpdater*****.
I can connect with Torque Pro but the connection only lasts a few seconds then drops out. Tried two Android devices, same issue. Then I switched to my older MX from another car and it works fine with both Android devices so I know it is not my devices. I did a factory reset of the MX and tried to update the firmware multiple times but it keeps timing out on connection problems. The phone asks if it is OK to connect to the MX to which I answer OK but for some reason the app can't seem to connect. I just started a support ticket at their website. Thanks for the help so far guys.
Well all I can say is tech support is great with this product. They emailed me back in less than 1 hour with detailed instructions which worked perfect. I was having issues with my connection, all seems to be OK now. I did not know about the "Firmware Recovery" option and I did not know enough to stay away from the "CONNECT" button on the app. I am attaching the email on a pdf file for future reference in case anyone comes here from a search with the same issues.
Glad you got it figured out and for the awesome tech support!
I edited my earlier response since I was wrong in saying connect after opening the app instead of before.
Well, I was actually wrong in any aspect of helping your situation, but even for the normal firmware update it seems I had it mixed up. Wouldn’t want someone to get the wrong idea from my post so correcting.

I am always cautious about updating firmware or drivers on a device that functions properly. If there are issues or perceived issues, that is different.
As David said, thank you for posting the instructions for everyone to utilize if they so choose.
I received my OBD Link MX+ yesterday. and I have already tried it out. I did not do update firmware. I just wanted to see if it would connect from my iPhone. which it did ok.
I just read in the pdf instruction attached in a post above which causes me some confusion in the instruction about updating Firmware which states, "Not Applicable for iOS Devices".
I am not understanding that part.

Ken,
I'm sure what it means is the instructions are different for iOS. The tech knew I had Android from my initial contact info.

I'm the same way but after the connection started dropping in and out (more out than in) I blamed it on the latest Android update but when it did it across all my devices including those that are no longer being updated I knew it had to be a problem with the MX which I have never updated.

Good idea and you took the same actions I would have taken if dealing with the same issue.
@ArmyLifer , I believe you resolved your "signal dropping" issue by using another device right? If not, perhaps this is something you could look into.
Thanks again to bigb56 for relaying this information to us.
They are just updates to fix bugs and problems arising from the constantly changing operating systems in our devices. If yours is new and works fine I would not do anything, but if you ever have issues in the future it could help
