Loose Shifter
Loose Shifter
1992 F250 automatic trans, got about 180k miles. My shifter is super loose, and is misaligned about halfway, so that when I'm in drive the needle is pretty much touching neutral. I've started to have to jump the solenoid to start it almost every time, the truck won't register when it's in park (it won't roll, but won't let me start it. on certain inclines it will drop back into reverse). I know about the screws on the shifter under the dash, I went and checked mine and they were tight. I've gotten under the truck and looked for bent linkage and don't think I saw anything out of whack, but I'm not an expert and not sure. Is this a problem that replacing the whole column shifter would fix, just taking it out of the column and putting a new one on? Every video I find online is about those screws under the dash. Thank you for any insight!
