Shifter reads one off
Hey guys, My shifter reads one off. Like right now its parked, but reads reverse. when in drive, it will read 2. Also The overdrive button only works when I wiggle around the shifter. Where should I begin the search? I did a searh here, and came up with bolts under the dash being loose, but as I checked mine, they were still tight. Thanks

If the SD trucks are like earlier Fords, the indicator is connected to the shifter by a cord. Near the steering column is a "thumbwheel" adjusting device that is used to adjust the pointer. It was accessed by removing the dash outer panel.

As for the overdrive button working only when you wiggle the shifter, that's probably because the wires have broken and you are getting intermittent contact. The wires on mine broke at the base of the shifter. I had to take the shifter off the steering column and repair the wires. Fix it before they break to the point where they can short. Strange things will start happening then.
