93 F-150 with E4OD. Gear shift lever did something funky one day after I backed out of a parking spot and then shifted into drive, I managed to get her home and I can't get it into park. It's in neutral and been parked for a week. Gear shift lever feels loose but not totally broken if ya know what I mean.
Would any of you wizards happen to have an exploded view of the steering column and or give me an idea whats going on? I have the dash out and tomorrow will take the ignition cylinder out so I can get the top half of the column cover off.
The "shift column tube" may be broken I have replaced this twice. you can reach under the column and manually shift it into park. I took off the upper and lower column cover, and dismounted the column. i think its 4 bolts holding the column to the big bracket. then push the column down toward the floor as far as it will go, and you should be able to get to the tube.

^^^^^ I would guess this. Relatively easy fix. But, if not this, check the torx bolts.. pretty common for these trucks.
Sound like the cable broke free from holder under the truck ,look under truck at trans and follow cable back it snaps into a holder to secure it if it moves you have no control of shifter position

The cable sheath is moving not the cable
Much appreciated fella's. Thanks for the pix too! I watched a couple vid's on replacing it and it seems pretty straight forward, have the parts on order as I type and it was exhibiting the same symptoms in the video's so I am pretty confident thats what it is. When I get into it I will post up pix so maybe it will help others.
before dropping the column, disconnect the shift indicator .otherwise you are going to break that 5 cent adjuster clip that is not replaceable, and you will have to spend $35 for a new indicator assembly..

Thanks for the tip but it's already been broke since before I bought the truck. I shift gear positions by counting. Previous truck was an 86 Chevy half ton short bed, had to do it the same way.
Got the parts in and a nice torx set in 1/4' drive size for most of the bits. it goes from T-8 to T-30 in 1/4' drive then T-40 to T-55 in 3/8ths drive and a t-60 in 1/2' drive. Reasonably priced.
She was certainly broke guys. again thanks for all the help. You guys rock! after top and bottom column cover gets removed along with upper and lower dash, drop the column by removing 4 13mm nuts then there are six t-30 torx bolts on top holding the shift tube in and two of the same size on the end of the tube. remove pins from the lever and tab, place them in new tube, also remove spring and place in new tube. Reverse the process to put back together.
