There are quite a few discussions about chrome paint on the HAMB board. One guy in South America was experimenting one his own concoction to spray silvering on metal and plastic parts. He was using the same chemicals used to make mirrors. It seemed to hold up for a while but not long. The problem with the chrome type paints that look close to real chrome is they will deteriorate with not coated with a clear but once coated they loose the shine. So far I haven't seen anything that comes close to real chrome plating.
The Mobsteel crew used this stuff on an 1953 Packard Clipper grille and trim. https://spectrachrome.com/ https://www.mobsteel.com/our-rides/ (scroll down 1/2 way down the page)
It's certainly not a DIY adventure from how they presented it, but if you can find a shop doing it...
