Hey there, I’m brand new here as a member but I’ve read the help on this platform for years. More recently I’ve been searching every help on here with the no 2-3 shift issue with the 4r100. This is in a 2000 7.3. Transmission was rebuilt about 60k ago. Truck has 270 on it. Driving scenario is the truck operates normally in R, 1 & 2. It will not go into 3rd. Just revs really high. In 20 test drives I have been about to somehow feather it into 3rd no more than 2 times. It has given a blinking OD light for 2 codes one was bad 3rd gear ratio and the other was no 2-3 shift error. Anyway, sorry for the long intro.
Also thank you for your time if you’ve made it this far. So at this point I pulled the pan, magnet was covered in metal goop and the fluid was brownish metallic color. I replaced all 3 valve bodies because I figured they may all have goop in them. By the way non of the valves seemed stuck or problematic but I had already ordered those upgraded bodies and after lots of investigation on these threads I was just certain that would fix the problem. Got everything back together. And nothing changed. At this point I realize I should have checked the solenoid first. So I did, everything seems to be in the correct range on the solenoid. 20 ohms on the 1 and 2. And the TCC and other readings were in range. I tested the plug from the truck and got 16 ohms on all those which seems low but I’m not sure if it is supposed to measure the same? Anyway... I’m at a loss. I also sent the PCM in to test it and it came out fine. Any advice? Bad wiring? Idk. Thanks in advance
cleatus12r is right. If it were a solenoid or a wiring problem you'd have codes for those. Since you don't have those codes the solenoids and the wiring is fine. And since the PCM was tested fine, the only thing left is inside the transmission. I think it needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Hi again,
Local mechanic described to me that if I have Reverse then the direct clutch is working. Could I still be facing an electronic issue? Triple checking this before a rebuild. THanks!
Yes, the direct clutch is applied in reverse. However there are two other elements holding in reverse that are NOT applied in 3rd gear (od range) that mechanically lock one element that overruns in 3rd.
Reverse is also lower-geared than 3rd and thus requires less "holding power" to make motion happen.
You're looking at a teardown regardless because of the fluid condition though.

That changes everything! (Not!) Read this:
