mtflat,-how long was your wife in the hospital ? i am praying that she recovers soon. right now she really needs you .what are you doing for pain now ? it seems that most of the time it is the right knee ..the only thing only thing that bothers me is that the left knee is starting to hurt a lot more now. i will let you know what happens next. tell your wife that i am praying that she has a speedy recovery
Thank you Bob!
I'm retired so I'm her primary care-giver and I've been busy since she had surgery. It is a lot of work. If your wife is going to take care of you, I'd suggest having a friend/neighbor/family member who can take over to give your wife a break.
We planned to use the house to our advantage. No throw rugs. Shower is walk-in. Arranged furniture so there is a clear path for the walker.
She was in the hospital overnight, but that's an individual thing and also regional in the US. Some places want to keep you longer depending on how you respond to the surgery, anesthesia, and they have a post-op check list of things they want you to be able to do before they send you home. She's been doing steps right away.
Pain is mostly controlled right now with hydrocodone and tylenol.
She still has some relief from the spinal block shot they gave her before surgery. That should be wearing off completely by tomorrow. So pain will be probably more of an issue this weekend as she hits the third day after surgery.
She is following the doctor/hospital's directions for pain and exercise. The cooling pump is great, just keep ice in it.
It's amazing surgery and she's glad she had it done. You will be fine and you'll get thru it with flying colors! Don't worry and don't over-think it.
If you have any other questions, let me know. Prayers for your adventure ahead my friend!

TIM ,i am glad that she is doing fine .did you bring her home after the surgery ? they told me that i would be up and walking some time after the surgery. they said that i would only be in the hospital over night. then i am going to rehab .right now they are making arrangements to get me a bed there
.they said that i will be in rehab for about 3 days they will have the pt right there and all the equipment too. -i was asked if i wanted to have pt done right there in the hospital and i said no.i figured that i would be better off going to rehab .today i went to see my family doctor today and he gave me a clean bill of health.so now i have to go to the hospital june 4 to get checked for covid and if that clears then monday june 7th i will be having my surgery
.they asked me if i had taken the covid shot and i said no way and i am not going to take it now. whenever i go some place and the want to take my temperature i do let them take it by my head i always make them take it by my wrist .a lot of people do that now .i will keep in touch with you .i hope that your wife's pain goes away very soon and that she gets better real soon .your friend Bob
Dave, I had mine replaced 4 years ago Feb. 28th. Piece of cake compared to my brothers knee. I didn’t have any therapy, he just told me to walk. I was off work 5 weeks. I’m 67.
I just spoke with a friend of mine (mid-sixties) who recently had hip replacement surgery. He went in the hospital at 9:00am and was discharged home at 2:45pm.
There was no therapy just home exercises. He said he was playing pickleball 2 weeks later .
Dr Smith- good luck on your hip replacement. on june 4th i have to go to the hospital so that they can check me for covid.if that is ok then on june 6th i am supposed to have my right knee replaced. i hope that you get better real fast .good luck Bob
good luck , right back at you . From ever thing I have heard , we will both be up and back to the things we love doing . Maybe there is another old truck in my future

i had to go to the hospital today to get tested for coved .they said that they would let me know by 4 pm today or by 4pm sunday to let me know when i have to go to the hospital for my operation. well they have not called as of yet so i guess that means that they should be calling me sunday .the hospital just called and said that i have to be at the hospital monday at noon .i want to wish good luck to Dr smith on his right hip operation today -Tim i hope that your wife is doing great Bob
Home from the operation . every thing went well , I can walk with the walker and clime stairs with a Cain , glad it's over . hopping you do as well with your knees
I've been keeping DR Smith in my prayers today. edit: Congratulations - that's great to hear!
Thanks for your prayers and asking about my wife - she is doing amazing. I think she's too stubborn to stay down or gets bored easily. She's up and around with a cane, and often without it.
Her operation was robotic and the doctor glued the incision together. I don't know if that helps with the flexibility but it can't hurt.
I'm convinced attitude is everything and avoid naval-gazing at all cost. Have plenty of distractions. Follow the pain med course set out by your doctor and keep moving! You will beat this I know!!
