Thanks for all the great advice fellas. I think I'm just going to install a 5000 watt inverter and go that route. It would be nice to have 110v on the truck anyway.
Years ago I found a picture of someone who mounted a York upright where the factory ac compressor went, and moved the original ac compressor over towards the driver's side so it had both onboard and a/c!
In Texas I would have to do something like that..my last engine I bought came with the York mount I just have to find one...
Electric is honestly probably the way to go, easy to install, simple to hook up, but I like mechanical stuff that aside from catastrophic failures should be very reliable...

As far as the York`s go, I have read about them from various sites. Lots of off road`ers use them.
Mercedes used them up to around 79, use to see a lot of those years in PNP, but they crush
them as fast as they can.
I sits up high on the right side and a PITA to remove getting to all the bolts.
Then they went with the GM R-4 POS compressor.
