Engine driven air compressor

Does anyone know if they ever made a belt driven air compressor that was mounted to the 7.3 idi motor?

there were aftermarket kits, but they were big and expensive.
cost my friend $4300 to have the compressor and tank put in his truck back in 89.

I won't be spending that. Lol. I've recently acquired a 1991 Gruman Olson Kurbmaster step van thats on a Ford chassis. Has the 7.3 idi and zf5 trans. I am using it as an HVAC service truck. I've got a 20 gallon air tank that the 110v compressor has gone bad on. Im wanting to mount the tank somewhere on the truck so I can have compressed air for various things. A 12v compressor might be an option depending on how fast they can pump.

The York AC Compressor has been modified to be used a an Air Compressor.
Lots of off road use these.

twin viair 380C compressors with a 5 gallon tank will do pretty much everything you will ever want.
amazon has them for $286
Amazon Amazon

you can probably find them cheaper.
i have twin 380C compressors in my 02 with 6 gallons of air storage and can remove two 8 lug wheels without the compressors turning on.

Yes. Kicking myself for not getting a mostly complete V twin compressor kit that would fit factory V belts with air conditioning. Guy wanted $600 and I had never seen them so no idea what a reasonable price was, but now I know $600 was reasonable even if the compressor needed a rebuild. Keep your eyes open, they come up from time to time.

I used to make a dip stick to check the oil level in the V twin Mopar still can find them in the Yards.... run the air thru a cooler and you can maintain 200 PSI.on the Tank and a Pipe Bumper makes a nice air tank.

There is this;

Years ago I found a picture of someone who mounted a York upright where the factory ac compressor went, and moved the original ac compressor over towards the driver's side so it had both onboard and a/c!

In Texas I would have to do something like that..my last engine I bought came with the York mount I just have to find one...

Electric is honestly probably the way to go, easy to install, simple to hook up, but I like mechanical stuff that aside from catastrophic failures should be very reliable...

You're the only one I really keep up with from here so I figured I'd reach out, the forum hasn't seemed too active throughout this cold spell, I hope anyone who is reading this and staying safe and warm with their friends, family and animals.

If you're out of power and can't stay warm crawl off in an idi, 21.5:1 compression makes a lot of heat at idle. That's my best winter advise

Plenty of IDI engines were equipped with air compressors in applications with air brakes. However they used a different front accessory drive.

I looked at one on a bus one time, I doubt you could close the hood on a truck the size that compressor was...
