Yesterday while traveling down the interstate there was an accident in front of me so obviously we were in stop and go traffic. As I came to a complete stop I had a car rear end me at approximately 30 mph. The front of her car was completely crushed in and she had airbag deployment. my truck sustained damage to the rear bumper and my hitch assembly. Thankfully no damage to the paint or AL body that I can see now. The bumper has a couple of dents in it but the receiver is bent sideways somewhat. Since the receiver is attached to the frame, is there a chance this could have tweaked the frame at all? I do know when I was driving home the truck felt “loose” and it also felt like the back end was sitting lower than usual.
Moral of the story? Dont read a freaking magazine or Phamplet while driving down the d*mn road!!!!!!
All that energy got absorbed somewhere. You really, really need to take the truck to a frame or body shop that can put the truck on a frame machine. A pro can do some eyeballs on it and may see a tweak in a frame rail since they know what to look for. But with that much damage to the car, some of that energy traveled down your frame.
"some of that energy traveled down your frame" makes perfect sense!
Its definitely going to a shop next week. Just waiting on my insurance to give me guidance on what to do next. Until then Im out of work as I use my truck to tow my trailer. I Called up rental places and they all have a clause in their contract that doesn't allow you to tow a trailer. If I were to do it, then the liability falls on me!
Really depressed about this! Im at the point of looking at new trucks to purchase because in my mind this truck is jinxed. Heck, I can only imagine the diminished value now when I go to trade it in seeing as how this will show up on a car fax report.
I would also scrap your hitch ball assy 5 years from now when trailer drops on the road and the hitch has a rust
line through it you will be slightly upset.
The hitch is definitely getting replaced. I cant take a chance on towing a 10k trailer knowing their may be a hairline crack I cant see. Too much of a liability

Looks like your under bumper back up lights survived! I wish you the best, but sometimes insurance does not cover aftermarket accessories, like your drawbar, will be curious to see how that works out for you. I think the draw bar saved your tailgate from being damaged. Philip.
As said, frame may have some damage to it. We had on '04 Expedition and my wife was stopped at a stop sig, there was a Kia Soul stopped behind her that got *** ended by a Prius. The Prius launched the Soul into the Expedition and the bumper and tow hitch took all the impact, similar to what your damage looks like. The frame bent and the rear driver's side door was out of alignment, it would shut, but creaked like crazy and the gaps were all out of whack. What looked like it should be a simple fix of a new bumper was a totaled '04 Expi....
Htich, Bumper Repainting, maybe tire and its mounting, frame shop for verification and 4 wheel alignment for starters...and a new hitch piece plus that receiver.
