Hey guy's my dad just bought a 2000 7.3 with a 6 inch lift and there is quite a bit of play in the steering to the point where the truck is a bit challenging to control going down the highway. It has steering stabilizers so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Bad stabilizers? Bad steering box? Or something else? Truck has roughly 250,000 miles on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Great ideas above. Also (engine off, truck on the ground) lay where you can observe the whole front suspension. Have a helper swing the steering wheel back and forth. Look for any slack at any of the joints. The slack could be anywhere. Take your time to see it all.
Also if all looks tight but the wheel turns before any of the steering linkage moves that would be a loose steering gear box. It can be adjusted tighter, we can walk you thru that.
