Wiper Motor issues

When I purchased my 79 F100, it had a on and off switch rigged up under the dash to turn on the wipers. I was finally able to try and figure out what was going on. The switch in question has 2 wires coming from it, one to a ground that is hooked up to where the ash tray is mounted and the other goes to the bottom of the motor casing. I am thinking the switch is actually for the ground and possibly the switch is bad and the wipers would be on all the time unless the ground is "broken" by this other switch? I am in the process of searching the forum now for clues. I have not found where the wiring from the wiper switch to the motor has been tampered with at all.

So if the rigged switch is left on to make the ground does the wiper switch work normally or do you have to turn off the rigged ground switch ?

Regular switch does nothing...only way to operate wipers is by the rigged switch.

And some info from ND. I am sure one he sees this he will update it with locations.

Two differenttypes of windshield wipers, two differentwiper switches.
Two speed wiper switches have a low & high speed.

Intermittent (delay) wipers were optional on 1973/79 F100/350's and 1978/79 Bronco's. Intermittent is not another name for low speed!

So I need to retract my last answer, when the rigged switch is on, and the original is off the wipers are in low. When I turn the original switch to high, the wipers go to high. When I turn the original switch to low, wipers follow but when I turn the original switch to off, the wipers continue to operate until rigged switch is off. I have not yet checked the switch for continuity yet.

If memory serves correct, it is not switch but in motor. The motor has a constant power feed with a set of contacts in motor that opens at a certain point. This is how the wipers always stop in down position. If the conatact point breaks wiper never stops.

That may be correct if wipers cannot go to park they would continue to run
