So recently my 1979 f250 the wipers wouldn't turn off. I tore the dash apart. Found I had the intermittent wiperbox and ordered the correct switch. Fast forward about a week to today. New switch shows up. Install it. Nothing, except the washer motor pumps. So I pull the new switch out. Same thing....no wipers but it pumps.
What do I do now? If anyone can give me a walk thru of how to test the rest of the system or offer any advice I would appreciate it. I've spent a fair amount of time in the search function, but have not found what I need so far.
Really 43 views and not lick of advice.....really folks. I'll go for it, till FMC400 shows up and saves the day.
So you ordered a new intermittent wiper switch and control box or a standard wiper switch? If your truck is wired for a intermittent wipers, I would say you need that kind of wiper switch.
Do you get the motor sound and no wiper movement? Are you sure all your wiper linkage is connected? Since you have the pump function I would say you are getting power to the switch and out to the pump.
Maybe the motor itself is bad? Have you checked that with a multimeter? Come on FMC400 where are you when we need you.
Ck fuse, ck the wiring and connections going from the switch to the motor.

Is the problem that the wipers won't turn ON, or won't turn OFF? Your post indicates both. The mechanism for signaling the wipers to turn OFF is actually part of the wiper motor, not the switch.

I too am a bit confused....
But, the wiring and wiper motor are the same whether intermittant or not. The difference is the switch and governor box.
80+ wiper switch and governor will interchange with the 79- trucks, but the washer is wired "backwards". I suspect that someone put an 80+ switch and governor into the truck, making the required mod to the washer plug (putting it on "upside down"), so that by installing an intermittant switch for the 79- truck it makes the washer work anytime the key is on.
As for the wipers not turning off, that would be the wiper motor itself, since the "park" function is built into it.
As such, I think the OP needs to 1) replace wiper motor and 2) put the original wiper switch back in.
Turn the key to ACC, then check for power on BOTH sides of the wiper motor fuse, and report your results (I don't recall if a '79 has a dedicated wiper fuse, or if the wipers are grouped with the accessory fuse).

Since the wipers managed to at least come on with the old switch, and the fuse wasn't blown in the process of changing the switch, then all signs point to a bad (new) switch. The previous problem of the wipers not coming off could have been a bad switch, bad park switch in the motor itself, or a combination of both.
To vet the new switch, you can ohm it out according to the 1979 wiring diagram. The switch for intermittent wipers is in B-5. I can assist with this if needed.
