Okay, I replaced some aftermarket switch with a proper Motorcraft switch, albeit the switch was for 2 speed wipers and I only have a single speed motor.
When I fitted the switch and tested it with the ignition switched on, the wipers worked and when I turned the switch off the wipers would stop at the correct stop position. Hey great I thought.
Today I drove the truck (1963 F100) and it rained a bit, so turned the wipers on and everything was okay until I wanted to turn them off. Turned the switch off and the wipers just kept going. Even when I stopped and turned the ignition off and then restarted the truck the wipers started right back up again, even though the wiper switch was in the off position! What gives?
Looks like the park switch in the wiper motor went south. It provides power to the motor to bring the wiper back to a park position once the switch is put to the 'off' position. When they reach the park position, the switch in the motor is supposed to open up, stopping the motor.
Ray, I think you're right. I've just been out having another look and trying a couple of things, and it looks like my test may have just been a lucky hit. A couple of times just now the wipers nearly parked and then they finally did. I guess the park switch lever is worn and maybe sometimes just has enough movement to cut the power and at other times not.
Any idea if you can get to this just by removing the gear cover, or is it a case of dropping the whole motor assy out to work on it.
You might be able to get to the switch w/o taking it all apart but it might give you better access if it were on a bench. I've never had that year wiper motor apart but if it's similar to a early 60's Falcon, it is not too hard to fix.
Just did some more checking on the truck and then some searching on the site and realise that the 2 speed wiper switch cannot be used with the single speed motor.
Someone had cut the terminal block off to fit the previous aftermarket switch so I was working in the dark as to what wires etc needed to connect to the switch. Looking at one of ND's threads it looks like I may have to hunt round for a switch though.
This is going to sound moroninc as heck but here goes. You are telling me that my 64 has a wiper park option? I have been timing the switch to off since I got it three years ago.

Absolutely! Anytime you turn the wiper switch off the blades should stop at the bottom of the glass area. (on ALL vehicles)
I swapped the wiper motor from the 76 into my 66, but had to go back and swap the arm from the 66 motor to make it park right. When I added the delays it plugged right in.
You don't hear of them failing, I suspect you could get a bucket full of the motors for $10.00 ea from the readers here. If I could lay hands on it I would be happy to give you the one that I removed. No need to spend $200.00 for one.

It's not an option, all electric wiper motors have a parking switch.
Hey ND, I may have to get your help on this when you get back as I am assuming this was superceeded.
I think the part I am looking for is 17C470 which shows no 64 F100 listing at all. I ran 17A435 as well but my Parts listing shows no listing for a 64 or any year.
I gota be missing somthing in the books. Please toss me a hand when you get home. Have a great vacation ND.
Oh good thing someone else brought this up. I have the same exact problem. I have one speed wipers in my '64 and sometimes it parks and other times it just keeps on going! I guess I'll pull the wiper motor and see if I can clean it up in there or something...
