I am ordering a new 250 Tremor, and have a question maybe you can help with. On my 2017 cclb 350, I have the 360 camera and the adaptive steering. I never use anything but the backup or sometimes the forward camera in tight turns because the truck is so big. I don’t notice anything special about my steering. I don’t need the trailer backup ****, I can put any trailer anyplace I want with the steering wheel.
I can’t get the adaptive steering without all the other stuff, so I am thinking of leaving it off and saving about $3k. Is the steering going to feel much different without the adaptive, other than maybe more turns of the wheel at low speed?
Our 2017 F350 without adaptive steering required a whole lotta cranking’ for steering input, and I had to help it unwind after a sharp turn. I found it unnerving. 😟
We ordered our 2019 F350 with AS. The steering input and ratio feels “normal” to me.
My 2020 does not have adaptive steering and dont see the need for it. I have no problems with steering in parking lots or anywhere else. But have not driven a truck that had it.
My 17 had adaptive steering and my 20 does not. I definitely noticed it missing a lot at first and miss it, however it isn't a deal breaker. If you've never had it, don't worry about it. But I'd check that box again on my next truck.
The difference between 2017 adaptive steering and 2021 is dramatic. My 2017 took effort to turn the wheel while my 2021 is easy to one hand. I parallel parked yesterday in a spot not much bigger than the truck. I would get it again.
I will follow up to my own question. I spent this afternoon driving a few trucks of different configurations with and without adaptive steering. I find it to be an absolute must have. Much easier driving in parking lots, much more responsive on the freeway, better overall feel. I found the non adaptive to have a dead feel, lots of wheel movement for little response at speed, and in tight turning situations it was much easier and fewer turns with adaptive. Hope it helps someone. Too bad you have to get the stupid trailer pro backup assist with it. If you are buying one of these to tow, and can’t back a trailer with the steering wheel, you shouldn’t be towing forward either. JMHO

Good feedback for those who might be unsure on the option.
I have adaptive steering and the 360 camera system on my 19. I had no idea until this thread that adaptive steering required the 360 camera system. Has it always been that way?
I do think its lame that they lumped the pro trailer backup assist in with the 360 camera package. It adds cost and an unnecessary option to a package that I feel is a must have, the 360 cams.

my 17 lariat ultimate had adaptive steering as a standard feature. No trailer backup **** or 360 camera
my 20 platinum does not have adaptive steering, and it was an option at an additional like $700. but has 360 camera and backup ****. I think the only options my platinum doesn't have is adaptive steering and the safe.
All the trucks with backup assist also have a electric motor in front of the steering gear. This is active at all times and does reduce steering input.

Oh ok, so AS was a stand alone option in the past. Maybe it started to require other options in 2020, along with the ****. Price has stayed the same at $1k.

I'm glad you said this. Both my 2017 and 2021 had it but the 2021 turns so much easier. It's almost like something wasn't working right on the 2017.
I hate my 2019 adaptive steering. I would love to dump it or change it some how. Fights me all the way while driving and parking. PIA. I've owned 5 F350's and this steering is the pits.
