Progress on the 48

Very little gets done over the winter because I’m working outside but occasional 50 degree day lets me get some stuff done.

Last week I replaced the gas tank, all fuel lines and vacuum advance, added fuel filters, took the carb apart and cleaned it out again, rebuilt the fuel pump. It seems to run great now, starts right up, no hesitation on the throttle although I haven’t driven it yet.

I was also able to get the insulation and headliner installed. Most of it was easy, but the roof piece of the headliner was a challenge, but I got it done all by myself. My son was going to help, but he’s National Guard so he’s in DC. Thankfully nothing happened.

for the next warm day I’ll put the seat in and take her for a nice drive. Wiring next.

Oh yeah, they use salt, but so far a fairly mild winter. Besides, I have fiberglass front fenders and no rear fenders so I’m not concerned.

Sneaking in a work day during the cold months is a special gift. Always good to be putting parts together.

Thx, what a difference it makes, both in sound and appearance. I installed door switches too, so like a refrigerator, when you open the door, the light comes on, and when you close the door, guess what happens.

Another nice day so I changed the transmission oil. Turned out to be a good idea, the transmission had very little oil in it, maybe 2 pints. It took 5 to fill it until it overflowed. The old oil was very dark, almost black so I can’t imagine how long it’s been in there.

I, too, am impressed with the headliner. Whose kit did you use?

thx, it’s a Dennis Carpenter kit. Fit really well, just some holes that needed drilling as expected.
