I have a 1999 F359 super duty I just bought and it shifts hard. Speedo works fine as everything else does and it throws the PO500 code so I changed the VSS but still the same problem. The previous owner had a mechanic replace the computer out of another F350 and it's done this ever since I guess. What could it be
Did you disconnect the battery after replacing the VSS?
Why do you need to do that? If the problem is not present the hard shifting won't be present and the code will clear.
P0500 doesn't mean replace the sensor. It means the PCM isn't seeing the signal from the sensor. Sometimes that is from a bad sensor, but quite often it is from a damaged wire between the PCM and the VSS.
