Could be but more than likely a vacuum line problem or an EGR solenoid/wiring problem.
How does it shift if it is an computer controlled automatic transmission?
If the speedometer is steady does not bounce and it has good shifts if it is has a computer controlled automatic transmission then do not worry about it.
If on the other hand if it is not a computer controlled automatic transmission truck then you may have a bad speed control module or PSOM/wiring.
With a speedometer that is steady does not bounce your VSS on the rear end is OK.

I have the same issue with mine. its the exact same truck. Sometimes my check engine light comes on and some times it doesn't. could bad u-joints throw a vss code? i know mine are bad because the truck shakes like hell. My truck sat for 6 months while I was gone so im not sure where to start checking for the ERG problem.
