I cannot believe that O'Reilly asks $60 for the intercooler cold upper sleeve/hose. Does anybody used a 4 or 5 inch long hydraulic hose instead and if so, what size? The one on the truck now came two years ago with a steel pipe replacement kit and developed a surface crack. It is superficial but I would like to have a spare just in case. Not fun driving with a turbo that won't go over 5 especially when towing.
I wouldn't use hydraulic hose. I had that on one of my 6.0's when I bought it, and after I took it off once I couldn't get it to stay on again. IIRC there is a small indent at each end of the metal tube, as well as on the inlets and outlets of the turbo and the intercooler. These 'grooves' mate up with a ridge inside the correct boots that, once you tighten the clamps, prevents the boots from slipping on the tubes unless you are in an extreme over-pressure situation. You're going to want the right boot.
That said, places like RiffRaff and Sinister sell boot kits for less than $200 that would let you replace all of them.
Welcome to diesels. EVERYTHING is expensive, but to keep them running it's worth the money to do it right the first time.
I also recommend RiffRaff's boots. Silicone and more robust than OEM. Only about $25 for one or like @99powerstrokedF250 mentioned, the whole set may be worth it if one is needing replaced. I'd also recommend their upgraded clamps.
