Hey guys. I seem to be in need of new brakes. I put a new set of rotors and pads on my truck about 30k ago and under inspection today I noticed one of my rotors has a big crack in it. I didn't go with the top of the line but it wasn't bottom either. The pads are still in good shape. I do tow about 12000 lbs with it in the mountains but I let my motor hold it back more then use the brakes. My question is what are you guys using for a truck that tows regularly. Thanks for the input
To answer your question.......I tow with a '17 F350. Your truck is more than adequate to tow your load. Your cracked rotor is probably due to a sticking caliper that is not allowing the brake pad to release from the rotor and creating excessive heat build up . Time for new everything, pads, calipers, rotors, fluid and flush, etc. Don't skimp on brakes, do it right.
Ditto on the new calipers. Mandatory up here in the rust belt to keep those pads backing off. I also use the ceramic lube on the sliders and pins. Powerstop rotors have worked well for me.
I am still running what ford installed in 1997, 311,500 miles on it. Almost never gets driven unless it is towing, currently on my 3rd set of pads. it is nice not living where rust is a problem.
