Working in a 46 Ford truck and trying to figure if I need a bench seat for that year or if other years are compatible? It has been hard trying to find a seat for that year that is somewhat decent but can find many for 48-52 trucks. Any help would be appreciated?
GB used one form a Suburban on one of his Jail Bars. He isn't on here all that much but it was a good fit from what I remember from the photos he posted either here or on the Ford Barn. When I had my '40 1 1/2 ton I used the middle seat from a mid '80's (I think) Chrysler mini van. Fit well and it didn't take much to fab the brackets. Sorry no photos. Another option but pricey is a seat frame from Glide Engineering in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I put one in my '39 p/u. I like it much better than the stock seat it replaced. But as I said it wasn't cheap. Only photo I have of the Glide seat.
It might take a bit to find pic that seat....It may show on my post here called 'she'll be comin' round the mountain'. But it was a removeable third row seat fron an 88 suburban. It was a brown pleated vinyl so looked ok. Perfect width in my '47. Funny thing it had forward facing hooks on it's base to grab the fittings in the burb's floor. These hooks hooked right over the seat brace flange on the ford. Then I made a couple of two hole steel straps to connect the rear of the seat frame into the 1/4-20 holes, which were the factory seat mount holes. If I were a bit more hillbilly, I could have used my roll of steel 'plumbers tape'. Doubled of course.
