Next time, slide that oil filter wrench all the way close to the base edge on the filter can, then turn filter off...It won't collapse cannister as there is the base thread plate there.. Use leverage against the filter wrench, if you need some more torque. A bar or stout wrench or screwdriver can give you the extra oompff watch out for knuckles. You can do this
I am sitting here waiting for the I am surprised that motor is even still running with that Fram filter on it comments. Glad you were able to get the filter off. On my Dodge Cummins the first time I changed the oil on it the filter was so tight I could not get it with a traditional filter wrench. I had to go buy one of those sockets for filters. Used a 1/2 inch drive ratchet 18 inches long with extensions on it so I could reef on it. No go, Called my son and he came down and between the ratchet and him with an 18 inch pair of channel locks we finally got it loose. Cummins must have glued that filter on when they built that motor. I swore if the next one gave me that problem I would pay someone to do the changes. It didn't so I still do them
What tool did the mobile mechanic use to remove it?
it looked like a “castle” top tool, to grab the top holes? . It looked home made but I’m not sure, does a tool like that exist? It might help the next guy!
I am thinking it may have been a perfect storm, a low quality oil filter and a low quality oil filter adapter?
Thank you for everyone’s help!!
