Power windows (what do you know?)

On a 1990 Ford F-150 4x4 XLT Lariat, power window
on drivers side has recently giving me trouble.
Sometimes the window will roll down, other times, it won't. I notice that when the windows are functioning properly, I will see the volt meter on the dash move a little bit when moving the windows either up or down.
But recently when the window stopped, I will watch the volt meter gage on the dash. It will not even budge. I wonder if there is a simple solution to this. I thought that maybe it is a grounding problem. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have taken a test light to the wires to the back of the switch on the drivers door. I do find current. I found where the motor is and get discouraged. I'm hoping it is a simple thing before I find myself taking the whole door apart for nothing.

On my 90 F-150, the drivers windows seems to be working ok. But the passenger will go down fine, but seems to bind about halfway up. If I hold the button, it'll eventually go up, but I definetly notice the volt meter move towards the 8 side.

I've taken the door panel off a time or two, but i can't recall what the motor looks like. Can you easily reach the electrical terminal(s) on the motor? Try putting the light there, then wiggling the wires and playing with the switch. Just my guess.

Yes! My window does bind down about halfway down. Volt meter gage will dive torward the 8. Now it won't move. I will try and dive into the door some more.

And from what I could see, those terminals are not easy to reach.

Oh that never fails. Have you tried using a Volt Meter instead of the light. The light needs only a little power to operate, while the meter will tell you the voltage going through the switch. Check voltage going in and out. I'll go through my wiring diagrams when I get home, for some reason i'm thinking that there's a relay somewhere in that circuit.

Just for info, my back-up lights weren't coming on all the time, and I fixed it by replacing the switch, but when I tore the old one apart, I found lots of carbon and other residue, keeping the resistance hihg and voltage too low. This could be a similar problem.

my window motor stopped working every now and then just before it stopped working at all. After I tore it apart I found that all that was wrong with it was the brushes were worn down. I figure it started cutting out because the brushes were barely making contact. I haven't been able to find the right brushes to replace them so I just got a new motor.
It might just be a shorted wire, but you might consider taking the motor apart to check it out.
to remove the motor you'll need to drill out access holes to the mounting bolts. there are indentations to show you where to drill. a 1/2 inch bit is plenty.

More than likely you have a bad window motor, just go to the local autoparts or junk yard and get a new one about $45.00. Most junk yards get them from an aftermarket company

No, I haven't tried the actual volt meter. Just a light. I will give that one a try. How does this motor work. Is there a relay someplace?

The motor has two terminals, they are positive and negitive terminals, and just reverse the terminals for up and down. There is no relay and you can test the motor by applying power.
