Trying to troubleshoot a window problem on passenger side switch. I can use the driver side window control to raise or lower the passenger side switch. The pass. window used to have so intermittent up and down problems, whereas you can lightly tap the housing and then try it and it would go up or down. Now it's not with the pass. side switch period. I get 11.80 volts on the switch feed control if it's disconnected from the window motor and I use the up or down switch. As soon as I connect the switch control (Yellow/Red wire and Red/Yellow wire) back to the window motor, I only get millivolt readings when operating the switch for up or down. When I use the driver side door control switch, I have full 11.80 volts up or down.
What's causing the complete loss of volts when the motor wire's are reconnected? Do I need to make a run to the junkyard?
I removed the switch from the wiring housing and checked the Light Blue/Black wire and with it, I only get around 1.48 volts, with up and down reading from the meter.
I would still rig up another switch or find a replacement and check it. If youre losing all of your voltage through the switch (when it is connected) it sounds like you have a problem.
Well, I think I have solved this. I swapped the window switch from the passenger side to the driver side and the driver to the passenger side. Window finally goes down now on passenger side. Driver side switch for the pass. side doesn't work. Off to the parts store for a new one.
Another question though...
I notice that when I am trying to roll passenger side window up, it seems like it slips. Gong down no problem, but even when the window is fully up, it acts like it hasn't found home and you can hear it still trying to go up. Any idea what this is? Gonna try and tackle today as well. Someone has already been in the door and replaced or worked on window so it may come out easy. Have replaced several of these in past, but haven't seen where the window just can't find home when it's completely up.
Ahh thanks Volvo!! I was thinking the exact same thing.
I came across another thread about a window from a few years ago you posted on shortly after I "Binged" the web for problems such as this. I'm glad to see you around.
Thanks for the input Volvo. It confirmed my suspicions.
I have posted a pic of the inside of my electric window motor. It appears to have a plastic round piece inside, maybe there should be 3 in there, but only looks like 1 is left. There are chunks of plastic and grease..plastic I have to break so, I believe there were more than 1. Can I use 1/4 nuts in place or can anyone help with an idea on saving this window motor? I believe I read in the link I posted earlier that I can, but is this right?.
You can use the nuts in there, it will give you a bit more time, but the inevitable is going to happen. The steel nuts will wear out the rest of the plastic inside, and some rainy night without warning, the window will go down, and not come back up.
Ahh good thing its just the passenger side. It was a reman unit dated 2/04. I used 1/4 20 steel stop nuts. They worked out terrific. Window works better than it ever has. I got the truck 07/2010, so the reman unit had done well so far.
