Is the latch sticking, or is it the hinge? The latch on our 2015 is extraordinarily difficult to open. In fact, my wife can't open it for anything. I'm considering adding a remote release.
My tailgate on my 99 was getting very difficult to open. I took off the panel on the inside of the tailgate and lubed the mechanisms. It's pretty much one finger operation now.

Most pickup truck tailgates separate. Just have to find the fasteners. I don't think there are any tailgates with a 1 piece design, that you can't take apart.
That is true, but lift gates are just a wee bit more expensive than the $60 I have in the ramps. Of course, if the ramps don't work, then I am just out $60.
Got the second ramp assembled, and tried to get the scooter up the ramps. Mo go. The incline is too steep, all that happens is the tires start spinning about 18 inches up. Even tried to back the scooter up the ramps, and the tires got further up the ramp before spinning, but no where near the top. So at the moment it looks like I wasted $60. I will try and buy some grip tape for them to see if that helps. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for the $1,400 stimulus check Biden has promised. Then I can have the hoist removed from the Toyota and installed in the bed of the Ranger. Will have to remove the tail gate and get a net to replace it, and also a cover for the hoist as well as some kind of theft deterrent chain or cable lock.

nice truck Jim , wouldn’t be easier to back up to a dirt pile and the grandkids can ride their bikes on it too
Well, the next time I see a dirt pile in a handicapped space at Winco, or Home Depot, I am all set.
Forgot to mention in the post above, that on the way back from Home Depot, I checked the alternator with the multimeter, and at idle it was showing 14.45 volts.

I have a bud who has a lift for his van, but his chair is not motorized. He also has a special contraption that allows him to "fix" the wheelchair in the driver's position (there is no "driver's seat in the van". It all gets strapped down somehow, but I don't know how as I've never ridden with him.
When you start building out vans for disabled people, the actual build, cost more than the van sells for. Hydraulics for lifts. Special wheel locks and ratchet straps for the wheelchairs. Hand controls. All very expensive with a capital "$".
I know a guy who has a Dodge Caravan modified like that. Is that the model? Caravan? That "minivan" sold by Chrysler? Same story. I never bothered to actually look or check it out. He always complains about what a piece of junk it is. He says that the company he bought the van from, only converted Dodge Soccer Mom MiniVans. My friend always complained about how the van was constantly in the dealership for something breaking down, or a recall notice. He suspected that the company doing the disabled van build-outs used Dodge because they were the cheapest vans on the market. I suspect my friend of being cheap, and bought the lowest priced disabled van . For more money, he could have bought the Nissan NV, Mercedes Sprinter,or Ford Transit.
Harbor Freight has a little trailer which is the perfect size for towing an electric wheelchair scooter. Low enough that your ramps will work. Just add a piece of plywood, and you are in business.
I knew a person long time ago when I first moved up here to Fresno, who had a modified step van. No driver seat as he sat in his wheelchair while driving. His wheelchair was electric though, and he had a side lift platform that would lift his chair into the van. He also had a full size Chevy van modified to work with his wheelchair complete with hand controls.
That trailer looks perfect for the scooter, but I am looking for a way to carry it in the bed of the truck. No place to keep a trailer here at the apt, although, there is currently one sitting here. Go figure. Must be friends of the manager.
I have seen that trailer. It's the size of a pallet. I think you can strap down the chair, and ride on it as your grandson drives. Like a Rose Bowl Parade float.
That Asian guy who gets your LOL dolls and Billie Eilish swag? Park the trailer in his space. He owes you.
