2003 F150 Lariat. I' m installing new carpet in my newly acquired truck, and noticed a leak around the rear (Power) Window. This won' t be to cool getting my new carpet wet. For now, to get everything back together, can I Silicone the back window and change it out when the weather gets better ? Where does this leak usually originate from ? The separations in the window glass, a seal where glass assembly meets the cab, the plastic trim on the back of the cab. I know I could run the garden hose on it and check for the leak, but I' m by myself right now, no help available. Any help appreciated, and Merry Christmas !!
It's a common problem so a search here or on youtube will pull up a lot of detailed info. Don't use silicone. Pull the whole window out and reseal it with 5/16 or 3/8 butyl rubber rope. I forget the size, but again, a search will pull it up. It takes a couple hours and stops the leak.
I have an '03 with the power slider as well. Mine was leaking where the active window slides to meet the static window. The vertical weather- strip was MIA ( Ford no longer sells parts, just the entire assembly) so I purchased some weather-stripping from a site that sells airplane windows and seals. I can't recall the name, but I located these guys on a quick Google search. https://www.brownaircraft.com/aviati...pping-s/61.htm
I used some 3M weather-strip adhesive and so far so good.
