my 1999 f150 has developed a leak in either the roof or back window. water is dripping from headliner at right rear.
headliner is plastic and does not stain so it is difficult to tell
where leak is coming from. i have tightened all 10mm nuts @
top of window but still leaking. any ideas ?!
I've seen the rear windows leak quite often, all they are sealed with is butyl, could be factory missed a spot and just started to leak. You should be able to get some from a windshield place, and plan to be about 2 hours
I had the same problem with my 1997 F-150. I found some flowable silicon from Pep Boys and used it to seal the window from the outside by removing the brake light and squirting it between the window and cab. I also put some on the inside around the window seal. It seems to have worked but I am waiting for the next big rain. A razor blad seems to take off any excess silicon the best.
You've got the infamous rear window seal leak! You will have to remove the glass and re-seal it; this time with better stuff then what Ford used! And if its a slider, you take a chance of cracking the frame upon removal!
I bought my truck used from a Ford dealer with a warrannty.A few days later it was raining and I saw the leak coming from the passengers side of the slider.Ford had a outside glass company replace it.He was trying to be careful removing it but it cracked the frame anyway. All I can say is good luck removing your slider!
Ford says it is not repairable after it cracks. That not to say you can't try caulking it up real good where the crack is. It's just that you risk doing the job again (which is probably why Ford says to replace it). I recaulked mine once and it lasted for a year before it started leaking again. I replaced the glass after that.
I paid $400 for the solid one piece tinted window. I then went and did all the work myself. I probably did not get the best deal on glass but I also didn't want to drive an hour one direction or another to get a cheaper window.
Has anyone, or does anyone know, if the frame can be purchased without the glass?
Or is this a all or nothing situation where you have to by the glass and frame as one solid part.?
Thank you in advance for your comments
