ok, so #1, this rig came with a TS Performance chip in it, that didn't do anything different in any position. The guy I bought it from had the switch unplugged, said it screwed with the performance... yeah, well, maybe... I think that was the idea...lol. Anyway, the link that Paul, AllaboutMPG , posted above showed the procedure for installing a chip. I took the pcm out of the shell and there was still silicone on the terminals, so I have that cleaned up and back together. I'd like to hear some thoughts on the TS Performance chip with 6 position switch, any good? POS? anyone have or had one, liked it or not?
Very common bit of kit, respected quality hardware. Tunes on it, who knows. Probably completely fine fwiw. It can be reburned with new tunes if you want.
Woulda liked to see a pic of the cleaned PCM connector, easy to go to far on the cleaning. Want to remove the silicone but not the solder coat. If it's down to copper the TS chip may not be able to make a good connection. If there was silicone still on the connector that would explain why the TS chip did not work for the PO.
Found it, great detailed information, I looked earlier, but I didn't scroll past the ads to find the goods!
No worries! I ran across it recently when I contemplated replacing my hacked up PCM case after a tooth shattering pothole in east of Knoxville TN made the truck stumble a bit. I got lucky and I know I got lucky. After returning home I took steps to ensure that doesn't happen again.
TS chip is just fine to use, just make sure you know what tunes are in what position. As David said, there is really no way for you as the "customer" to tell. The downfall to the TS is that you have to send the hardware off to have a new set of tunes put on it.
As Finlander said, Hydra is the latest iteration of tuning hardware besides the DP F6. The ability to have tunes emailed to you and installed by the customer is the big benefit the Hydra has over the TS. The TS does not have as many positions for tunes, but most people don't use more than 6 anyway. I used 3 on a regular basis and now I use 1 tune for driving/towing and the high idle once in a while.
Slap the TS chip on there and see what happens.
This is the route I would take as well, with caution and paying close attention to the 4R100 shift strategies and how the throttle pedal makes you feel about the running condition of the vehicle.
Make sure you install the chip correctly and don't fiddle with it once it is installed and working. If irrepairable damage is done to that DPC-452 PCM, they are a hefty chunk of change to get a replacement unless you get real lucky.

Thanks David, I was very careful to leave the solder tin in place

Thanks, according to a slip of paper and their web site, I have the default programming, but who really knows? I'm ok with the stock performance, but another 50hp might be fun. I have no desire to tear up my tranny or transfer case.
