timing issues

i rebuild my 400 with aussie heads and tim piston for the aussies heads.i also install a retro fit kit from crane cam to accept 460 roller rocker. when i install the double row timing set with the -4°, 0°,+4°. i set it up straight a 0°. my question is did the timing mark are still good on the harmonic balancer? from the factory my 1979 400 had a retard 4° timing chain set up.

Timing marks on the balancer refer to piston position like top dead center. Have nothing to do with cam timing.

The outter ring of the balancer can slip over time. You would need to find top dead center and compare it to the marks to be sure.

The camshaft phasing will not change the TDC indication on the balancer no matter where it is installed - straight up, advanced, etc. Don't worry about that. However, it would be wise to employ a degree wheel or, some other method of positively verifying that the camshaft is truly where you want it, in terms of valve timing.
