I just received my new double roller timing set. It tells how to set the 3 marks but what I dont understand is which on I will use. Below is what it says, abbreviated for space.
1. To retard the timing use the Y on the crank sprocket and the retard keyway shown.
2. for factory spec timing, use the 0 timing mark on the crank sprocket and the factory keyway shown.
3. To advance the camshaft timing, use the . timing mark on the crank sprocket and the advance keyway shown.
By the way its a cloyes double roller. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim
The factory timing set is retarded 4 degrees. It is equivalent to position 'Y' on your Cloyes timing set. If you use the '0' timing mark your cam timing wll be 'straight up' or zero offset. This position will give you more torque at low RPM. In 1971 the cam timing in the 400 motors was set 'straight up', later motors were retarded 4 degrees for emissions.
Danlee, So the 0 mark will give me the straight up 0 degrees versus the factory 4 retard, like I currently have. A 75 model motor. This is the position that evryone talks about on here to take away the retard. Thanks
