400 timing

400 timing

i have a 1977 Ford F250 Hiboy with a 400. from my knowledge, the 1980's 400 had retarded timing from the factory, is this also true for the 70's? i know that a new cam and different timing on the 80's will really wake them up... but i am wondering if the 70's is retarded or not, so i can decide to change or leave it alone.

Hello, yea you are correct if your truck still has the factory timing set in it then your timing is retarded. A straight up would give you some improvement over the way it is now.
