So we got the batteries replaced because they were bad. But when the girlfriend went to drive it home it randomly shut off on her and wouldn’t start in P or N. I replaced the CPS about a month ago and a few months prior to that. So this morning I went to see if it’ll crank and if it didn’t I’d check the ICP but it turned over and fired right up. Are these two things a good spot to be checking for the issue?
While it started this morning I pulled the icp the idle changed and then I plugged it back in a few seconds or minutes later and it died and it’s back to a crank no start

Well hey, test results. ICP prolly has oil on top, check it out. Clean harness with brake clean and replace ICP, genuine Ford or IH strongly recommended over much cheaper imports.
You can run the truck with ICP disconnected. Won't run great, but it will go and cause no harm.
Some dealers (Ford/International) will price match if you are in a hurry, but as David said, the 7.3L will run just fine with the ICP unplugged until the new part comes in. Both Clay and Bob are active on the FTE and are site sponsors. Do not purchase a POS labeled as an ICP...
sorry for late replies. Icp and CPS are all ford. I checked icp and didn’t see oil on top as if it was bad. Thinking of changing both and seeing what happens
If I may add to what David has suggested, but change the application of choice.
FORScan is much more user friendly and helpful when troubleshooting. TorquePro is good to look at and works 100% of the time 60% of the time, but FORScan is rock solid and will do everything you need it to.
Check out the following links if you wish to go that route:
Popular scan tools are the BAFX or OBDLink devices. These are not the only choices, but anything that is capable of reading J1850 PWM should work. There are limitations to some of the applications and scan tools based on using Android, iOS or Windows as well.
My truck was randomly dying and not wanting to restart. I changed cpa and tried unplugging icp, no fix. But then I wiggled the engine wiring harness and it died. Long story short the wires were rubbing on my frx and a valve cover bolt and shorting. I cut some heater hose in half put it over the wires and fixed. So maybe check the wiring harness that runs over top of your engine
