Glow plug harness removal

I have an ‘87 6.9 and I broke two of the glow plug connectors when replacing all my glow plugs. I’m going to the junk yard tomorrow because I know there’s multiple 7.3 idi’s where I could get the harness’ from. Does anyone know how easy or difficult it is to take driver and passenger side harness off?

what should I be expecting in the removal process?

Is the beginning of the glow plug harness a plug that I could just remove for each harness? Is it only one plug for both harness’ (driver, passenger side) or there’s not even a plug they’re just in the main wiring harness?

IF you have the spade type then press the release and un-plug them from the plugs..IF it is Bullet style then twist them while unplugging them from the plugs ..

unbolt from the Relay or the controller depending if old style or new style

pretty straight forward

the twisting a bit on the bullet style helps .. grab em by the connector and not the wire.... no telling if you might have to untape or cut wire ties.. never know what some folks do
a little WD-40 to get em off can be handy, just use care... I always use Corrosion X on the connectors when I install them..and a bit of anti-seize on the GP threads.

once I get a good harness from the junk yard I’m definitely gonna put dielectric grease on the insulator part of the connector.. I think it’ll help keeping moisture out and should help if I ever have to take them off.

thank you for your input.. much appreciated

Thank you very much for the Thank You... Remember a Dielectric is a NON Conductor... what you really want is a Conductive that is also a Moisture barrier ... Dielectric grease is and insulator which is good for spark plugs and such where you do not want Conduction or leakage.... not same for Glow plugs......just saying

while obviously you don't want the Bullet connector to short to ground you do want the best connection to the actual Bullet connector.... a dielectric grease can increase resistance but it is better than nothing at all for corrosion protection......but not what I would suggest. SP-400 or SP-350 would be a better choice than a Dielectric Grease.

I use Corrosion X for my Go to as I do a lot of Marine electrical.. but I think Vaseline would be fine too and maybe better than a dielectric even though Vaseline does have dielectric properties.
I mean if it's about the money............I ain't gonna go there
