I had the dreaded turbo coolant leak at around the 60k mile mark, had it replaced under warrantee. Fast forward to 160k miles, I am experiencing coolant leak on top side of the motor, filling the valley between heads with coolant. I figured it was the turbo fitting again. Pulled the intake plenum get ready to replace turbo coolant line and fitting, but once I get there, the line looks pristine. Look around and find coolant in a few nook and crannies further forward and up on the motor. Looks like it may have come from either the upper primary radiator hose where it attaches to the thermostat housing, or the thermostat housing it self. The thermostat housing bolt on drivers side and sensor next to it had some crusty corrosion looking build up on it. I replaced the upper primary radiator hose with new, and pulled off the thermostat housing, no one in town had a new gasket or thermostat to replace, so cleaned both surfaces up and put a small bead of high temp RTV on the flats. Hopefully this fixes it.
I've had the turbo line coolant leak (rapid) and the upper radiator hose fail (slow leak) with coolant in the valley. I don't know exactly where the upper hose was leaking, the tech found the issue when replacing the #5 injector so it must had recently started because I had not noticed any on the ground at the time.
the thin bead of high temp. RTV on the thermostat seal and replacement of the upper radiator hose seems to have fixed the leak. Sure wish I would have noticed that before pulling the intake plenum. Oh well. Live and learn.
I’ve had the upper Rad hose leak, radiator, waterpump and when it’s cold out almost every hose connection leaks. Those Oring connections are junk. What was wrong with a hose clamp?? Drives me crazy. My old 6.0 has less leaks than this thing
