I have an 86 f150 with the 4.9 in it. Last week noticed that the temp was staring to climb so decided to do a coolant flush and change the thermostat. When I took the housing off found no thermostat but the old gasket was there. Installed the new one and started to fill her back up and noticed it was gushing coolant. Any suggestions please are giving her blood she still is pouring out.
The Tee stat housing have been known to Crack across the bolt hole ears.
Also I think the stat sits in a seat in the housing could it have slipped out?
Can't remember think you have 2 hoses maybe one of them?
Also may have a sensor in the housing could that be the leak?
You can get a psi radiator tester from the parts store that will show leaks pretty good.

It's very easy for the thermostat to slip down out of it's home as you are bolting the housing on, and as you tighten the housing it develops a hairline crack that leaks coolant.
Also go through the chain of events that led to this. Did it leak before and it still leaks the same? Or did it not leak till you messed with it? Or did it leak before and now it leaks worse? There have been many times I have a problem that I caused or made worse.
