They can all make the power. The Cummins I-6 is loved for its simplicity, and for its bottom end, It has one hell of a beefy crankshaft.

you would think we would have thought of that before buying a Ford.

I personally like the under hood sound of the Cummins motor vs others.

I agree with the OP 100%. This pissing match is getting ridiculous now and it's going to have to stop somewhere.

Having said that, there is a part of me that's just happy somebody is stepping up and bending Ford over the table, because GM sure won't. Ford got used to being the leader in paper specs every single year. Ram has stepped up and said, "Nope, we're going to trump you regardless of what you do." I love it. And, they're doing it with two fewer cylinders and an engine that'll last forever. Oh, and an Aisin medium duty transmission that'll last longer than 3 Ford 10R transmissions combined.

It's not just trucks.... It reaches to every item an American purchases. There is so much propaganda being blasted at an American every day... They don't know what to believe. Hind sight is still 20 / 20.... But the Internet is overloaded with "Influencer's". YouTube is one of the worst places... We don't get the quality products we did 50 years ago. But there are always products that rank high against the competition. Every manufactured item is engineered to have a "Lifetime"... We just have to be smarter than the looters.

This us pretty stupid, but frankly, I could see Dodge fan boys running out to buy a new red herring... oh... I mean limited model Dodge... oh, pardon me.... RAM, just to have bragging rights. I know ALOT of diesel owners, both personal users and business owners, and all could care less who has bragging rights on HP, torque, OR towing. This is like to old ladies arguing about their polyester vs rayon pant suits. Just stupid. Fiat should focus on building a truck that doesn’t fall apart well before the engine. Maybe I’m exposed to a different group, but most of the business owners I work with that had a newer Dodge Cummins after buying into the hype now own 6.7L Strokes, and will never go back after their Cummins/Ram experiences using their rigs for actual work. I doubt if Ram (or Ford for that matter) will have consumers flocking to the dealerships if they jump to 1500 lb/ft torque... except those 19-23 year olds trying to impress each other with mom and dads money. 😆

Here very very few 19-23 year olds even drive a pickup at all. More likely a 10 year old chevy cruze or honda civic. The diesel pickup is a 30 to 40 year old man/woman thing for the most part. After 40 most people get it out of their system, and they buy a gas half ton, suv, or luxury car. Even if I think about every last one of my employees, around half own a pickup, most drive a 5 to 15 year old half ton gasoline engine one, 3/4 are dodge/ram, and only one guy drives a diesel, he has a 2014 Ram 3500, and is 38 years old, also said his next pickup truck will be gas. As my diesel engine company pickups and flat decks age, and get traded in, they are being replaced with new gas engine models, no more diesels for me, unless its a class 8 truck, or heavy equipment. Two sales women I buy from, one Ford, one Ram, said the diesels sold more and more over the past 20 years, till about 2015 when their sales flattened compared to gas, and since then have declined. Dearborn ford dealer is a local place, and they sold only 8% diesel engine pickups in 2019.

Regardless of the specs and "longevity" of the motor, will the frame and body last equally as long?

Bending Ford over the table, didn't Ford trump them just last year when Ram tried to top them. Why doesn't Ram offer the HO for every diesel like Ford does? And I've heard that Aisins aren't bulletproof also. Competition is good, but it has just about reached its reasonable max.

My old cummins was like 325/600. Towed fine.
Agree Joe,

I have hauled with old class 8's with less HP and TQ than most diesel class 3's have today.

Ford has been playing catch-up to Dodge/Ram for a while IMO. Dodge had the Cummins TURBO diesel almost 5 years before Ford went to the turbo Powerstroke. Dodge's 5.9L Magnum was a stronger engine than Ford's 351w and 5.4L at the time. And lets not forget the V10 that was a monster...making more torque in 1994 than the 460 ever did, and even more than Ford's V10 more than a decade later. Ram even kept the manual transmission 8 years longer than Ford in the HD trucks.

I use to have a Ram. Actually owned 3 different Cummins. All had their moments of success. But, common sense pushed me to reality (almost went broke fixing them) and I bought a PS. Best thing I ever did. Now, i'm back to the future driving a gaser (7.3). A lot like 1984 when I bought a 1975 Dodge W150 (AKA heavy half). Had a 440 with a thermoquad carb. Boy that was a butte...... Ok, back to this thread! Ram can't build a decent tranny to handle the horse/torque, soooooo Ford is fine with what they have..... Let them Rams self destruct!!!
