So tear down has started and another ?? Is this band correct for my 1989 AOD that was in a E250 the trans was rebuilt in 2007 by a shop near me by previous owner
You are fast approaching the limits of my knowledge on the AOD.
to look at a picture and say if it is right or wrong is beyond my ability.
what I reminded about the OD band on the AOD is that the trucks and vans got the widest bands of all the factory offerings. To the best of my knowledge, there are three widths available. 1”. 1.5” and 2” wide. I know that ford used the 1” wide band in cars with small engines like the 3800 V6. Mustangs, LTD’s and F150’s with the 5.0 v8 got the 1.5” band (as best I remember)
the 2” wide band may never have been a factory part. If it was, it was used in the E-series vans behind a V8. I can’t remember for sure if the AOD was ever used behind the 5.8 V8, but if it was, it would have been in the F series and/or E series and would have been about the only place you would see the 2” wide band, assuming it was ever a factory part.
the LTD came with the 5.8 v8 as an option and in the police package, but I honestly don’t know if those had the AOD. I got to drive one years ago, but I don’t remember if it was an overdrive transmission or not. I remember the gear indicator being different than the LTD’s I was used to driving, but beyond that I don’t remember.
baumann engineering used to be a great resource for info on the AOD and 4r70w. There is still a lot of good info on the website, but a lot of the info available about replacement parts may be slightly out of date.
LTD with the 351W and AOD was a real thing. Guy down the street had one. Both him and the car have gone to "...a better place". Car still running when it left. Him not so much.
i got the case emptied out and clean on the out side going to try and build it as stock as possible but parts are a little difficult to get at one place
gasket and seals, steels, bands + bushing from trans depot hope it all goes together
