I need to replace the fuel sending unit on my 76 F100. Gas tank is flat and located behind the rear axel. Prices range from $30 to $189. Would normally go for one in the middle of that price range , but reviews on all seem to be pretty bad. One brand name "Spectra" is $50 on Amazon and is $75 other places and has not one positive review. Other stores do not list the brand name. Most are not clear as to whether the item goes in the rear tank or deeper side tank. Many of the complaints have to do with not showing an accurate level. I understand that some adjustment of bending the float arm might be necessary. My tank is out , and the bed will be off soon , so I would be willing to make that adjustment while it's easy to get to.
Does anyone have any advice , or a reliable place or brand ?
I just saw a single Champion plug listed on Amazon at $15.89. I buy a lot for my truck on line and a lot from Amazon... but I buy almost nothing online at Amazon for my truck.
I bought a Grant steering wheel from Amazon , and an air filter but have not been comfortable buying truck parts , but the same sending unit "Spectra Premium" is $76 at AutoZone,$76 at O'Reilly , $ 86 at Summit Racing , $50 at Amazon , and $43 at Rock Auto Same part , bad reviews. NAPA does not carry a replacement ,
Rock Auto has another for $190 but I think I would put a hole through the bed and use a stick through the vent opening like my old tractor before I pay that. A fuel pump
sending unit all in one was only $40 for my 88 F350 !
