anyone have a fuel tank sending unit for my 1971 Ford F-250 Camper Special. I need one for the main in cab tank. I found some new ones for sale but, can't afford what they are asking. Any one got a new or good used one they would sell me? Or does anyone know of there are rebuilt kits or of someone that rebuilds them. Would appreciate any help.
Phil
And if it's the float that's bad, they're about $5.00.
How do you replace a float? My fuel gauge only goes to 3/4 and is empty at 1/4. I also hear a lot of ticking in the tank when i am going slow and hitting bumps. Count that be a bad float?
Dennis, I'm not finding them in a search on MotorHaven.
.
Phil, is this what you're after?

Dennis Carpenter has 428 of what I'm sure are reproductions. I found a couple more places that "MIGHT" have NOS. Some of the NOS guys also sell repo's, but it's too early to call!!!
WOW! That's a great price from Mac's! I'm sure they get them from Dennis Carpenter and Dennis retails them at $65.00! Reproductions usually, but not always, work just fine. It generally comes down to how long they'll work rather than how well. But then again I've put NOS items on cars, such as fuel senders and turn signal switches, that didn't make it a year. If you are interested in an NOS sender post here and I'll check on price and availibility.
thanks guys, but, i am looking for a good used or rebuilt one. i just can't afford a new one at this time i leave on a cross country trip in less than 2 weeks, and it's taking everything i have. Anyone, have a good used, rebuilt, fuel tank sending unit for the in-cab main tank for my 1971 Ford F-250 Camper Special? I need your help.
If it is working between 3/4 and 1/4 tank, why not try to bend the arms to get full scale deflection? Just remove the sender from the tank and run it by hand to see if it can indicate full and empty - if it does all you need to do is adjust the arm that holds the float untill it moves the same amount in the tank.

Sounds like a good plan... But now why is a 18 or 20 gallon tank only holding 10 gallons?
One of my long deceased relatives used to drop any change he got when filling his tank into the tank of his Model A - When he was ready for a new car, he removed the tank and emptied his piggy bank.
At least that is how he explained how he got money enough for a new car during the Depression - my grandfather always called him a boot-legger.
I went on ebay and got one for $10. The guy gauranteed it worked so I bought it. I changed it out but nothing worked. I got a hold of the guy I bought it from and he said he tested it and it did worked. I wonder, does both the positive and negative wires go to the dash guage or does the negative ground on the body? Maybe one or both of the wires are toast because my gas guage never worked from the time I bought it.
muddbugg, wish i could find one for 10.00. to answer your questions... does your truck have dual tanks with a main, and aux switch on the dash? if so, what you need to do is remove the orange wire from the top of the in-cab main tank sending unit, and with the switch on the dash set on the main tank, take a jumper wire, and connect one end to the orange wire, and the other end to a good ground the fuel gauge needle should go to full. if it does not the gauge, wiring or the switch on the dash is bad try this, and get back to me.
