LMC tank and sending unit reviews?

I have a 73 f-100 with a 302. The only problems I am currently having are fuel tank being full of rust and the sending unit only reading 1/4 tank. I have to buy a new fuel filter every week, so I have decided to go ahead and replace the fuel tank and sending unit. I have heard good things about buying from LMC but I wanted to hear more opinions before I bought the tank.

LMC doesn't have the best reputation here.
Another option is Rockauto.com (watch the shipping)
You'll also need to know whether your truck has evaporative emissions control.

Thanks for the heads up, how can I tell if it has EEC?

I had really good luck with my fuel tank I bought from O'Reilly auto. It was close to 180 bucks for the tank. But the sending unit I ended up sourcing from a donor truck. They couldn't get me the correct sending unit. The gas tank lined up and bolted in with no problems.

If you HAVE evaporative emissions, the fuel tank will have a hole in the middle of the top, this is for a check valve to fit in. There will be a 5/16" hard line that runs along the inside of the passenger side frame rail. This line goes to a charcoal canister mounted on the passenger frame rail. From the canister there is a 3/4" line that goes to the side of the air filter housing.
These two pictures are my project, also a '73. Mine has the evap system. You can see the check valve in the tank and the blue charcoal canister.

One thing to consider is a larger capacity tank, say, 38 gallon. Getting the sending unit right can be a challenge, see: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...llon-tank.html

I got a dorman tank and put in mine, worked great. I got a smoking hot deal. Someone on here notice them on Amazon for $20, so I went and bought all 4 that were left. Ended up selling 2 and and paying for all 4 plus shipping. I would just try cleaning the sending unit. Probably has rust on it and once cleaned will work fine. a new float and sock and your good as new.

Thanks Mike, it's a good thing you said that, because I didn't even think of it and would have probably purchased the one without EEC

I'll probably get it from O'Reilly then, I trust them more than I would LMC. I have never had a bad experience with O'Reilly.

Check your truck to make sure which one you have. a '73 could have either one.

I found a tank and sender on Amazon from Spectra premium, had good reviews, but the tank was only $80 and the sender $40, which makes me question its quality. Has anyone bought parts from them?

Spectra probably makes most of the tanks re-sold by others. It is generally a good name. Only question would be about the E bay seller. Are these undamaged first quality? How about returns in case something is wrong?

I'll add to the comments by others about the sending units. Most of the re-pops are 5/16". Your original may be 3/8". Also the gauge will probably work with the re-pop but will read different... not linear.
