“Auto” Climate Control function (toggle on/off?)

2017 F-250 with the dual/auto climate control
function. “Auto” switch is large **** on driver side. “Dual” switch is large **** on passenger side of control panel.

The “Dual” setting can be turned on and off by pressing the large button; press button to turn on and press button again to turn off.

The “Auto” function works differently, and am posting to see if anyone else works the same. I can press the “Auto” button to turn on, but pressing it again does not turn it off (does not function like the “Dual” button). To turn the “Auto” function off, I have to press the “Max A/C” button, then set the climate control how I want it if I’m not wanting the A/C on maximum. I’ve tried various other ways to turn off the “Auto” climate function with no success; even turning the truck off and restarting.

Truck has been in the shop this year for various repairs under warranty, one of which was reflashing the control unit (computer ?) that operates the climate control. Wondering if what I am experiencing is normal operation or something went wrong in the reset?

Will check OM to see if there is detail there, but still curious if others have experienced this function for the Auto switch after reflashing computer. It seemed the Auto climate switch functioned the same as the Dual switch before truck was in for repairs (which included removal of much of the interior.....wondering if something went wrong when doing so).

Thanks for any input.

On mine, I think if I change settings such as the mode (feet, dash, defrost) or fan speed that turns off the auto setting.

@HRTKD Thanks for the reply. So does your Auto switch not toggle on/off?

Mine does just as you describe too, making an adjustment to the air direction or fan speed is how I turn it off if I turn it on by mistake. Other than that I never use the auto function.

It works as I said. The auto light goes off. I went out and verified that.

Does the Auto function not work well in these trucks? Both my cars I use auto all of the time and just set temperature and forget? Has always worked well in both cars. Only time I don’t use is if I’ve been out in the cold and feet are ice then I’ll set on the cold toes, that’s about the only time I don’t use auto though.

Auto works good in my truck. The exception is when it's really hot. The 72° F setting just doesn't seem to keep the cabin cool. If I turn on the recirculate function it works like it should. The only way that recirculate seems to come on in the auto mode is if I lower the temperature setting all the way down to 60° F. But that's way too cold.

Mine works great, just like I expected it to. We’ve been in hot and cold, and it’s a “set it and forget it” feature. No bugs that we’ve found.
