1966 Restore Questions

I’m second owner of my 66 F100 short bed iv owned since 99. We are searching for someone to do a full restore but not sure if we would be better off doing a frame off or not. Also wondering what model I have. It has no custom cab emblem or interior look and has aluminum molding on the sides. Trying to keep all original. Thanks in advance.

It is a standard cab for sure. Seems pretty solid. Been painted blue it originally was Wimbledon White by the looks of it. I detest blue so I would repaint it but that is just me. Post a picture of the warranty tag on the drivers door and it will soon be decoded by someone here.

Looks like a very basic F-100 with the only options I can see being:
V8 (352)
Standard heater (no temp control)
Passenger sun visor
Armrests.
Bedside trim.

Hoping that I got the color code right - Looks like a W from here. If I got that wrong let me know.

F10 = F100-4x2

Y = 352 2V V8

L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant

738471 = August 1965 - 1966 Model Year

115 = Wheelbase in inches

W = Marlin Blue

F100 = F100 4x2 5000 Gvwr

K81 - K = Medium blue crush Vinyl and medium blue cody pattern - 81 = 81A Standard Cab

C = Ford 3.03 3-speed light duty transmission

17 = Ford 9" 3.25:1 ratio non-limited slip

5000 = Gross Vehicle Weight rating

172 = Horsepower at

4000 = RPM

63 = Memphis TN District Sales Office

On the restore a lot (vary lot) has to do with how much you have to spend on the job, who will be doing all the work and what you want to do with the truck when done.
If you cant do any of the work it will run BIG BUCKS!
If you want a trailer queen it will run BIG BUCKS!
If you can do all the work or say 80%+ of it and want a nice driver it will be a LOT LESS but more work on your part.

Maybe you can find a shop that will pull the cab & bed and do any work that is needed to them and paint it and you pull the frame back home and do the needed work to it.
I don't know if the motor needs to be rebuilt or not and the same on the transmission & rear end.
Say the motor needs to be rebuilt pull it and send it out while you work on the rest of the frame.
Strip it down, clean, paint it and when you put the suspension back in rebuild it. New bushings, new brakes, lines, gas lines, etc. so it is a rolling frame again.
When the motor comes back install it with new clutch assy., clean and painted (if you want) trans.
Then you can take it back to the shop for the cab & bed install.

Now would that be a nice driver or a trailer queen?
That is up to you how you want to use the truck and the job you did on the frame and the shop on the body & bed?

On my 81 F100 flare side I bought it to do weekly trash runs but needed so work to be road worthy in my eyes.
Being an ex-body man I could not do a half azz job on the work so it turned into a 4 year cab off frame rebuild, bed was not really there just the bed sides.
I did all the work my self other wise I would of never had the $$ to pay a shop to do the work that I did.
Floors, rockers, rear door posts, cab corners, used a style side bed floor that looks factory, added a AC firewall to the truck so I have AC, added dual tanks that also looks factory and made custom bumpers.
I wanted a nice driver and it is all that and then some if you ask people that have seen it.
And yes I do use it for the weekly trash runs and back in forth to work when I want, 37 miles each way, 4K+ since Nov 2019.

And the best part I can run this front plate!

Good luck with your build, your in the right spot to get answers but as stated earlier the cost will be determined based on what you want to do with the truck when it’s done.
