I want to run an engine and transmission (C6-1989) on an engine stand. I have the torque converter connector (w/ 1 quart Type F). Do I need to connect the trans cooler lines? How many quarts do I need to add to the trans to be safe (it was empty)? Any other precautions I should follow?
Loop the cooler lines together. Add 4 more quarts to the trans. Crank the engine and check again, you should be able to add 4 more. You will want to make sure the trans has proper fluid level before you try running the engine or you risk pump damage. Type F isn't the correct fluid for a C6 after 1977 unless you want really hard firm shifts.
