Hi,
Just got the trans and transfer case on after changing the trans pump,I just had 4 liters ( 4.5 quarts) trans fluid handy, truck won't go into gear. How many mimnimum quarts should I put in before it engages. I took off one of the trans cooler lines and it does spurt eracticaly, not a steady flow!
Thanks
Wow! I didn't have the figures..... I guess 4 liters is no way near enough, just enough for the converter I guess, will have to do some shopping tomorrow!
Thanks
would that be the same for a 2WD truck with a c6.....please convert that into quarts please...lol and is there a specific type i need to put in for diesel trannys?
well a liter is about the same as a quart, so if it is a dry trans and dry torque converter, start with 10 quarts and add till full. 12.5 liters should relate to about 13 quarts. 2 wheel or 4 wheel, it makes no difference, the transfer case is seperate from the trans. the only thing they have in comon is they both use dextron/mercon fluid.
my 88 c6 took 14 quarts with the extra trans cooler. i also used valvoline max life synthetic, as per the recomendation of the trans rebuilder.
1L=1.057 qts, so close to 1:1. Sounds like you got that pump working now, just gotta keep enough fluid on it...
Yea!What an ordeal! Will get some atf today and top up.At least one good thing is that after sitting for a month the 7.3 fired right up after two tries, runs nice and smooth.
Got everything running, filled up the trans and did a few forward/reverse tries, was a bit shy at first, engaged late in both drive and reverse, rechecked the fluid and was about a liter low. Will try it out on the road tomorrow and see if it runs up all three gears.
Yea, very self-rewarding! I cleaned the engine, trans and transfer case with a pressure washer, let it dry and started her up,took it for a test drive and it seems to be OK, I just have one small leak at the oil pan gasket but I can live with that for now, too tired to dismantle again. Thanks for your advices, really helped me out!
