Tach doesnt start at zero

I have an 07 xlt and just this weekend while on a road trip i noticed my Tach was at almost 4000rpms when cruising at 65mph. I started to freak a bit thinking the trans wasnt shifting correctly or something. I was able to get my SGII to show rpms and of course it displays correctly. and then to top things off my speedo back light is out so i am unable to read my speedo at night. Does this mean I have a faulty cluster and will need to send it into the circuit board medics?

thanks for your time

I had my tac go wacky once and there was a reset procedure for it but I don't remember what it was. One of those turn the key while hopping on one leg while balancing a beer on your nose type of things and it got you into a programming mode. I'm sure somebody on here has that procedure? Not sure if that will fix it though. I had to have my cluster repaired because it intermittently lost power sometime after that procedure fixed that issue.

Mine went wacko one day many years ago. It took about a half dozen start/drive cycles for it to re-learn how it was to behave. Maybe yours will do the same? B.

That could of been the test mode. That will do a sweep of the needles and some other reporting.

Does the numbers seem to read right when it's running or are they odd also?

For cluster issues I would go with
